Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) Hair Transplant

Hair loss is a common occurrence among both men and women that happens for many reasons. It could be hereditary. It could be due to an underlying condition. Whatever the reason is, thinning hair can take a toll on your life, negatively affecting your confidence and overall self-esteem.

While hair loss happens to all of us, it doesn’t have to happen to you. That’s why we have the perfect permanent solution for treating hair loss – a FUE hair transplantation.
A FUE procedure, otherwise known as a Follicular Unit Extraction, is a popular form of hair transplantation because it is a convenient, non-invasive, and safe procedure. The end result leaves you with a completely natural appearance of full, thick, and healthy hair for years on end.

At Medici Capelli, we are the leading medical clinic providing innovative and effective hair restoration surgery and hair loss treatment. Specialising in FUE and FUT hair transplants, we are paving the way as the first hair transplantation surgery in Queensland to use ARTAS technology, giving our patients precise and flawless results.

What is a FUE transplant?

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is a form of hair transplant surgery that involves the replacement of the thinning or balding area by sewing back healthy hair follicles taken from a donor site. The donor area usually is extracted from the back or sides of the head. Otherwise, body hair transplantation is typically done if you don’t have enough donor hair on your scalp. In this case, facial and body hair is used, including beard or chest hair, as transplanted hair to be extracted.

The procedure includes the removal of donor grafts which are performed using a device that extracts individual hair follicles. These are then harvested into their naturally occurring groups to be transplanted in the recipient area(s). Unlike a Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), which requires extracting using a strip excision, the FUE hair transplant depends on taking from individual hair follicles for more natural looking results. This assures that the entire procedure is harmless, results-focused, and provides a much speedier recovery time than other treatments.

At Medici Capelli, we use the latest ARTAS technology to ensure our patients get flawless results with mechanical precision.

How Does the Treatment Process Work?

Prior to surgery, one of our esteemed trichologists will provide you with advice and recommendations based on your first consultation with them. During the appointment, they will determine your hair type and its current condition, your eligibility for surgery, and what procedure will be performed. They will also need to check for allergies, and any underlying conditions you have to ensure the surgery will be a safe process.
A week before, it is highly suggested to stop smoking to ensure the best possible results during the recovery stages. Three days before the procedure takes place, it is also recommended not to take anti-inflammatory medication, not consume any alcohol, and not get too much sun exposure.

The trichologist will shave both the donor site and the recipient site. The donor grafts are where the transplanted hair follicles will be extracted, and the recipient site is where they will be re-implanted with hair that is still able to grow.

The FUE surgery will begin with an extraction, removing follicles from the donor area using our high-quality micro punch device. This is typically done at the back or sides of the head, guaranteeing a smooth and seamless extraction. You won’t feel any pain during the process, and the donor area will be transparent, with the existing hair able to cover the results from the extraction.

The individual hair follicles that were extracted during the harvesting process will then be prepared to be re-implanted. Unlike FUT hair transplants, FUE hair transplants remove individual follicular units, rather than grafts with natural groupings of 1-3 hairs.

The trichologist will perform an array of incisions using our innovative ARTAS technology to re-implant healthy hair follicles into the recipient area. The device will ensure the transplantation process surrounding the hair itself is safe and smooth, leaving you with minimal scarring and a fast recovery time. During this part of the surgery, you can watch a film or have a nap to keep you occupied.

Post-Procedure Treatment & Recovery

After the surgery, our trichologists will give you proper aftercare instructions and advice to guarantee you get the most out of the procedure performed. After a couple of weeks, the incisions should recover, but the new hair follicles will grow back in a couple of months. The expected timeframe for hair growth should be three months after the procedure, and it will continue to lengthen over time.

For the best recovery and final outcome, is important to have your head raised on a few pillows or be situated on a recliner chair when you sleep for the first few nights post-procedure. It is also best to discontinue the strenuous physical activity and avoid going out in the sun. By doing so, you can avoid any symptoms of pain or swelling and encourage a quicker healing process.

If you are experiencing discomfort, please speak with one of our highly qualified trichologists to prescribe appropriate pain medication and treatment. It’s also highly important to be aware of shock loss, which is when your hair falls out 6-8 weeks post-procedure. You don’t have to worry about losing your hair. Shock loss means that when it regrows new follicles, it will come back fuller and healthier than ever before.

What are the Benefits?

Unnoticeable Scarring

With a Follicular Unit Extraction, you’ll never have to worry about visible scarring, assuring you’ll be left with natural looking results after the healing process. On the other hand, a Follicular Unit Transplantation often results in stitching or the appearance of fine linear scars, which is much harder to hide. Despite this, there may be minimal scaring of tiny white dots appearing on the scalp, which are no more than 1mm in diameter and will be untraced after recovery. If you’re hoping to keep your hair short, this surgery is the best choice for you.

State-Of-The-Art Technology

At Medici Capelli, we are the leading clinic performing FUE hair transplant surgery in Queensland using advanced ARTAS hair transplantation devices. Having the latest technology available for your hair transplant procedure treatment results in a faster and safer treatment, and leaves your hair with the best results possible.

Non-Invasive & Pain-Free Procedure

One of the biggest reasons why patients get FUE hair transplantation surgery is it is a minimally invasive surgery and has much less discomfort than other hair transplant treatments. This assures that the entire procedure will be easy to endure and that the healing process will be pain-free, with discomfort only remaining for at least a week after the surgery.
